Can we build a self replicating intelligence so that at least learning can continue, even if not in a biological being.
Our challenge, as the World shuts down, is to create an intelligence within an electronic cloud, so that management structures could be implemented and whatever "success" was asked for it can be achieved.
Humans need a "universe solving problem".
USP - Can "intellingence" as we call it, outlive humanity, as humanities end is near.

An extraordinary statement in an article about OJ's memorabilia, and him stealing it back!
Simpson's new book, "If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer," was the top seller on amazon.com.
I may finally have to agree with O'Reilly. American "morals" have reached a new low.
He was referring to last week's Brittney Spear's middriff sighting worldwide on whatever awards show she shouldn't have been anywhere near.
It was even more awkward than Miss South Carolina's fumblings regarding America and South Africa, availability of maps, and education!
All of this is such "pop" culture that I'm not sure why it is here, except to show the state of most people's preoccupation, and it isn't with the health of the biosphere...

Just to tie it all up with another recent set of events:
Minneapolis is the nexus of the total collapse, literally and figuratively, of "American Culture".
First, the bridge collapse, not exactly a symbol, so much as the actualization of our rotted infrastructure.
(Spending tax money on roads and bridges would be providing a public good, so is not within Republican consciousness, and they've had control for the past 7 years...)
Then, Senator Craig is caught with his pants on in a toilet stall playing footsie with another patron and ADMITTING TO picking up toilet paper from the floor of a men's room...how weird is that?!?
Minneapolis, it is the low point of American Culture, both social and physical!
We can point to this date, as the crux of the beginning of the end of western civilization!!!

WASHINGTON - Frequent tours for U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan have stressed the all-volunteer force and made it worth considering a return to a military draft, President Bush's new war adviser said Friday.
"I think it makes sense to certainly consider it," Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said in an interview with National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."
"And I can tell you, this has always been an option on the table. But ultimately, this is a policy matter between meeting the demands for the nation's security by one means or another," Lute added in his first interview since he was confirmed by the Senate in June.
President Nixon abolished the draft in 1973. Restoring it, Lute said, would be a "major policy shift" and Bush has made it clear that he doesn't think it's necessary.
"The president's position is that the all volunteer military meets the needs of the country and there is no discussion of a draft. General Lute made that point as well," National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.
In the interview, Lute also said that "Today, the current means of the all-volunteer force is serving us exceptionally well."
Still, he said the repeated deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan affect not only the troops but their families, who can influence whether a service member decides to stay in the military.
"There's both a personal dimension of this, where this kind of stress plays out across dinner tables and in living room conversations within these families," he said. "And ultimately, the health of the all-volunteer force is going to rest on those sorts of personal family decisions."
The military conducted a draft during the Civil War and both world wars and between 1948 and 1973. The Selective Service System, re-established in 1980, maintains a registry of 18-year-old men.
Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., has called for reinstating the draft as a way to end the Iraq war.
Bush picked Lute in mid-May as a deputy national security adviser with responsibility for ensuring efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan are coordinated with policymakers in Washington.
Lute, an active-duty general, was chosen after several retired generals turned down the job.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — A suspicious item in checked luggage that prompted the evacuation of a terminal at Long Beach Airport on Thursday turned out to be an electronic game, authorities said.
Several hundred people were evacuated from the terminal for about 90 minutes and five arriving aircraft were held on the tarmac until the all-clear was given.
Transportation Security Administration screeners spotted the suspicious item while X-raying a checked bag around 9:30 a.m., agency spokeswoman Jennifer Peppin said.
The item turned out to be a handheld electronic game board in a "raw form" that showed its wiring, she said.
The passenger worked for "some sort of game or toy company," she added.
Firefighters, police and a bomb squad were called to the airport, about 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

Management 101 - The Cliffside Story
The problem is how do you get decision makers to make a decision based on the management plan.
If you cannot get them to do this, you cannot modify the plan to make any needed course corrections.
So, Cliffside Software, Inc. was formed and it created PlanAHEAD(tm) All Hazard Exercise Administration and Development, a software tool used to develop simulation scripts to test management plans.

training people in their tasks (functional exercise)
improving plans (table top, functional, full scale, actual incident reporting)
Any management plan can be improved using the methodology supported by PlanAHEAD, essentially a report generator to script the players activities, evaulate their actual response versus what the plan calls for, determine where the failure occured, or, if no failure occurred, what needs to be tested next!
